Are you worried about Ford?

    POLL -- Final Results:
Are you worried about Ford's future?

    Votes - Percentages

  • 68 __ 68.69% Nope! The best "NEVER" Rest!

  • 11 __ 11.11% Yes, who will do my warranty work?

  • 20 __ 20.20% Possibly... Maybe They'll be taken over?

_____Poll Start date: 16 Oct 2002 ... End Date: 16 Oct 2003
___

Ford's a mess financially. Sure they've been around for 100 years, but the truth is they're in trouble. Their credit rating is about to get slashed. All I care about is my warranty. Anyone think their future's at risk?

I'm sure that's what the people in the airline thought too....but just watch as every major airline in the US starts buckling and folding. Being big is not a safeguard against ultimate failure....it just means more people get hurt and more money gets lost along the way.

Yeah-I work for a 101 year old 7 billion dollar company. We were just aquired in a hostile take-over. Nothing is scared...

In answer to my own question, I think Ford survives as slimmer company with fewer offerings or gets bought. In either case I think our warranties are safe. Strange times though.

Thumbs up I would not worry...

I would not worry at all about Ford and the future. If you look at the other two big manufacturers in the US (Chevy and DMC). Both of these two companies are in more trouble than Ford. If I owned a Dodge or Chrysler I would be more worried.

Another viewpoint:

From http://www.thecarconnection.com/ind...2&sid=175&n=156

Speaking at an Oct. 15 Automotive Press Association meeting at the Detroit Athletic Club, Padilla suggested that today’s headlines, by contrast, should read, “Ford: ‘We’re Coming Back.’”

The facts, Padilla said, are that Ford is on track to meet or exceed its targets to reduce $2 billion in non-product costs this year and more than $3 billion in material costs by mid-decade, its quality and customer satisfaction are improving, its market share has stabilized, its plant capacity utilization will improve by 10 percent this year alone, its new-product pipeline is building and its relationships with employees, dealers, unions and suppliers are improving.

Share and share alike

Padilla’s facts and figures show more progress at Ford. For example, the company’s third quarter share was 21.3 percent, up from 20.7 percent in this year’s first quarter. This is the largest improvement among domestic makers in that period and second only to Honda’s 0.9 point improvement. September Lincoln sales were up 38 percent over a year ago, led by the redesigned Navigator luxury SUV (up 26 percent) and LS sedan (up 68 percent).

Also in September, Ford Div. achieved its highest share (18.7 percent) for any month this year, and Ford continues to be the top-selling brand of cars and trucks in America. The Ford Focus small car — partly thanks to fast-improving quality due to an intense dedicated effort at the Wayne Assembly Plant — is gaining momentum and set a September sales record.

Ford’s extensive lineup of SUVs has been reinvigorated and is selling well. The once maligned Explorer mid-size SUV enjoyed a record share of 25.1 percent of its segment in August and handily outsold Chevy’s TrailBlazer at 14.5 percent.

This is true, but the only part that is keeping the whole DMC company up is the DM part. C is failing miserable with record low Jeep and Dodge sales.

I have no worries that Ford is going anywhere, or being bought by someone. I seem to remember a time when Dodge was a miserable car company that was going to go belly up. Ford and GM helped out and now they are pretty decent, (not that I personally really like any of their cars, except for maybe the prowler). The Big three in America can't lose one another because of the monopoly in a certain market deal. If Ford went under Dodge and GM would have to large a market and get hammered by the govt. For some reason I seriously doubt that would happen.

Okay, I voted "yes" I am worried about Ford, but I don't believe they are going to shut their doors and leave all Ford owners high and dry.

Ford announced last year that they are closing plants, one of which is the Hazelwood plant here in St. Louis, which makes the Exployer. If this plant closes it will cause a ripple effect in the local economy that may sound the death toll for many small business that depend on the business from Ford employees. Most of the communtiy of Hazelwood would become blited and property values will fall. Schools would lose a significat percentage of their revenue and the quality of life will suffer at all levels.

So yes I am worried about Ford.
