Please help me with Pop Ups :(

I can't enjoy EC when I spend 3/4 of my time closing pop ups. What are you doing to avoind this? Any advice, it's killing me.

It's not EC that's doing it, very likely you've got some spyware type junk assimilated into your system. Check out http://www.lavasoftusa.com/. Adware is pretty decent at finding spyware.

Some of the non-EC hosted stuff (Like Videos I think) has pop-ups. In addition to running Ad-aware I highly recommend Pop-Up Stopper Companion from www.panicware.com or you can use a browser that has a built in pop-up stopper type program (Mozilla to name one)

SpyBot Search & Destroy is free and, at times, more comprehensive than AdAware. Getting a free Pop Up killer will help, too...

I use SpyBot and a licensed copy of a program called AdsGone...I never get popups anymore...unless I allow them...

The New Netscape has a pop up blocker that works pretty good.

Have you installed any file sharing software lately, BearShare, Kaaza, LimeWire, etc.? The free versions of these programs load you up with all kinds of spyware.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I upgraded my browser to Netscape 7.1 and wow what a difference. I should have done this sooner. I am also using WebRoot Spy-Ware and it is also helping. Thanks again for helping me save whats left of my sanity.

I would run adware from lavasoft; it will clean up your machine very well. You can also customize your startup by typing msconfig in the run line depending on your OS. (click start - then -run). The last tab on the right is your startup tab. I would uncheck all of the nonsense that you don't need, it will speed up your pc!

For the people who have windows 2000! Simply copy it from a Windows XP machine to a Windows 2000 machine, and run it or Download it
msconfig from WinXP

How to Use MSCONFIG

Today was virus clean up in my ward! 10 hours of non-stop fun cleaning, fixing, patching, and updates. I'm lucky tomorrow because they are busing me down to Six Flags to try out some new motion sickness meds!

Nope, that's PART of what adaware does, but it also disables spyware, which is software that has been installed on your system.

Actually it only deletes cookies that "Phone Home". Escape-Central cookies don't "Phone Home" so they stay. So do a lot of other cookies.

Yes, it has a list of cookies that it knows are 'spyware' and it looks for them and deletes them. i am just saying, if you delete all of your cookies, you wont have a problem with popups. try this: delete your cookies and then run ad-aware. guaranteed it wont find anything
