Tire suggestions needed

My wifes '05 2 wheel drive Mariner has the old Continental oem tires on it. I won't drive it because the tires are SOOOOO LOUD that you have to crank the radio to hear it. Its a shame cause the tread is good, but they are cupped and noisy. I rather walk to work then drive that with those POS tires.
So, who has what? I am looking for an all season for up here in northern Ohio, with a comfy/quite ride.
I had Michilans on my old Explorer and loved them and have BFG long trails on my Sport Trac and love them. So, I am leaning with one of those two.
Any advice would be great!
Thanks,
-Kirk

I have Bridgestone HL Alenza's on mine and I'm VERY happy.

If your tires are cupped, you either didn't rotate them or you have an alignment problem or both. My old Conti's still got noisy as they wore, but the wear was even.

MY OEM Conti's cupped (all four) within the first 4,000 miles. Dealer checked alignment and all was within specs. Ford authorized replacment of all four tires so I paid extra for Michelin Cross Terrain. 38,000 miles later I am still pleased with the Cross Terrains.

The new General Grabber HTS has been getting very good reviews, also the Continental CrossContact Lx is very good (no relation to the ContiTrac) Both are about $100 each. Check out www.TireRack.com Conti also has a $75 rebate on 4 tires through Feb.

I have the CrossContact LX on my escape and they are a lot better than the ContiTracs that are on my wifes Mariner. I understand what you mean by the road noise being to much. There are plenty of tires out there that are much better.

I also had the BFG Long Trails - the LT rated on my Expl Sport and loved them. I got 60K + miles out of them with occasional towing.
I have the Cross contact LX now on my Escape and have been pleased with their performance. Having gotten these used, I'm not sure of the wear, but 2 had 7-8/16ths and 2 had 8-10/16ths across the tread. I've put 15K on them and 2 are showing the wear bars in the center of the tread.
Even worn down as they are, they have reacted wonderfully in the snow and heavy rains so far this winter.

Goodyear Fortera Triple Treds

Way better wet, dry and snow traction all the while being much quieter than the 'craps. Pricey though...

--I'm getting the Firestone Destinations, if I ever get over to their
store.
They are having a sale until the end of March, buy one, get one free, but I'm not sure if it applies to the Destination.
I have to recheck their flyer.
The only thing is, they really hit you with the installation charges, balancing, stems, old tire removal etc. for each tire.

I put the Cross Contact LX's on the Expedition last year & am pleased, good traction & quiet. We put the Goodyear tripple treads on bro-in-laws SportTrack & he says they are awesome too. I made my decsion on tirerack's reviews & priceing. CrossContact had as good as or better in some areas as Michelin LTX and nearly 1/2 the price. I got the best local price at a Ford dealler actually. But I guess they forgot to adjust the speedo as I did a slight size change.

Firestone Destination AT's, they have an aggressive tread, excellent wet/ dry traction, They got me up my very steep driveway when it was a solid sheet of ice. They also feel significantly more stable then the contis and are incredibly smooth and silent. I love mine and wouldn't hesitate getting another set when these wear out.

BF GOODRICH 'nuff said.

I avoid tires with the words "Year" and "Stone" in the name.
