Another DPFE/IAC thread...with pics

First of all I would like to thank the folks at rockauto.com. I saved almost 50% vs dealer price (+ OH tax). Ordered Monday at 8 AM, delivered on Wednesday. $69.50 shipped for both parts.

Six months ago: Check engine light on (had been for a while but getting average MPG). A few months ago the Escape would not idle. It died as soon as I let off the gas. Cleaned IAC and reinstalled. No problems starting.

Past month or two: Truck would idle rough every now and then (usually at the first stop sign/light after cold start).

Past week: Truck has been idling rough, shaking. Never died but it seemed like it could. Unhooked battery, cleaned IAC again. No change. Figured it was about time to change the IAC, and while I was at it replace the DPFE, taking care of the CEL. Ordered parts.

Oddly enough the rough idle stopped yesterday! I still decided to go ahead and install the parts. We'll see what happens (or doesn't happen).

Old (top) and new.

Motorcraft IAC part number.

Airtex DPFE

Old (bottom) and new.

IAC installed

DPFE installed.

I just changed out my DPFE sensor. What was not clear was that you need to remove the "jumper cable." When I first removed the electrical connector from the old sensor and it did NOT match up to the new one I thought I had the wrong part. Makes you wonder why Ford did it the old way to begin with.

Could the DPFE and IAC be related to slight hesitation when taking off and a "sticky" throttle? I've been cleaning my IAC every 6 months or so, but it didn't seem to help the sticky throttle this last time.

Where did you end up getting your parts from?
I want to change out my IAF and DPFE sensor, but wondering if I NEED the ford parts, or if there is an aftermarket available. KWIM?

Why do you want to change them?? MPG down? Idling poorly? Just doing a tune-up? If for whatever reason. Stick with the MotorCraft IAC and DPFE parts. To many members bought aftermarket parts that didn't slove the problem.. (AutoZone,AdvanceAuto, etc.)

I just ask cause i just changed out ALL my ignition coils and am still having some issues. The most recent was when pulling out on the highway, about 80km and pushing 4000 rpm the engine missed. At least I am not getting the studdering on a left hand turn any more.

Hmmm, That sounds like Fuel Filter,Injection System,Intake air leak or even the emissions system. Check engine light?? You may want to try a can of SeaFoam or Chevron fuel system cleaner.

Fuel system was my first thought too. About 2 months ago I had it taken to a FORD specialist. A mechanic with ties to a dealership. They spent 3 hrs looking over my Escape. Fuel system pressure was good, no leaks found, reseated every electronic connection. Even reflashed the CPU. It ran well for the first 2 weeks, and then another coil went. I changed out 3 more coils, so I had 4 / 6 coils replaced. Then last week i decided to change them all out. Took it on the highway for a week business trip to Calgary. Ran great down, but on the way back the high rpm miss.
I wonder where i can find Seafoam in Canada?

Found some Seafoam. My local NAPA parts shop had some. $12 after tax. Put some in with a fresh tank of gas.
